Namchi - The District Capital of South Sikkim

 Namchi is the district headquarters of South Sikkim, located at a distance of 78 km and 100 km from Gangtok and Siliguri respectively; it is also directly accessible from Siliguri by road. It is an ideal place for tourist with spell binding views and exciting trekking/hiking trails. One can have a panoramic view of the surrounding hills of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and the snow-clad peak of the towering Himalayas from Namchi.

The clean and well tended town is fast developing into a popular tourist destination where visitors throng in large number for different type of holiday activities.

Nature has generously endowed Namchi with flowers like orchids, primulas and rhododendrons and large numbers of animal and birds inhabits its dense forests.

One of the highlights of Namchi is the statue of Guru Padmasambhava that stands atop the hill of Samdruptse. The height of the statue is 135 feet and is the tallest statute of the Guru in the world.
