Dzongri - East Himalayas' most popular trek
Dzongri in Sikkim is one of the most popular treks in the Himalayan region. Trekkers compare this place to a divine amphitheatre that provides spell binding views of the Himalayan range of mountains including the magnificent and sacred Kanchenjunga.

The Dzongri trek, Sikkim’s most popular and prided trekking trail was founded by the great mountaineer Tenzing Norgay and his wife in the 1960s.
Apart from the breathtaking views of the Kanchenjunga, the glorious view of the Ratong and Kabru peaks is also an unforgettable experience. The other ranges that are visible from Dzongri are the Koktang, Pandim, Narsing and the Singalila Ridge.
Dzongri is a paradise for trekkers with its magnificent mountains and wildflowers like primulas, rhododendrons, anemones and junipers; Himalayan birds like the wagtails, minivets, magpies, partridges and redstarts. The land area starting from Yuksom, including Dzongri and higher altitudes is part of the Kanchenjunga Wildlife Sanctuary – one of the highest wildlife sanctuaries in the world ranging from an elevation of 6,200 ft to 28,156 ft.
Dzongri provides many trekking option to choose from that can be customized according to the experience, interests and physical fitness of the trekkers. Avid trekkers can pursue the trek to Goecha-la via Thansing and Samiti from Dzongri or choose the trail to Chaurikhang; there are several options and each one has its own goodies to offer. An alternative route which is more challenging and only for advanced trekkers is being opened by the Sikkim Tourism Department; it will start from Soreng passing through Hilley, Varsey, Dentam, Uttarey, Chewabhanjang, Bontok before finally reaching Dzongri. The new trek is longer and tougher and will provide opportunities to pass through several lakes and glaciers while the Singalila range looms toweringly alongside the trail.
The trek to Dzongri is for experienced trekkers and for the physically fit; it is important that one should allot a day or two for acclimatization before beginning the journey to higher elevations. Sikkim has many options for each type of trekkers and one can opt for other interesting and easy level treks in North Sikkim and West Sikkim. Sikkim is a treasure house of adventure, thrills and scenic beauty and no one is left disappointed.
