Ministers support locals’ fight for bridge
A long standing demand of the people from both sides of the Singimari river came closer to getting achieved as a bogey of ministers, both present and past, along with other dignitaries and political leaders of different hue, agreed to take their demand forward.

Locals organised a large gathering at Adabari-ghat in Dinhata this afternoon which was attended by the State PWD minister Mr Kshiti Goswami, forest minister Mr Ananta Ray, civil defence minister Mr Sreekumar Mukherjee, ex-tourism minister Mr Dinesh Dakua, Sitalkuchi MLA Mr Harish Barman, district Left front convenor Mr Chandi Pal, RSP leader Mr Gopal Chaki, CPI leader Mr Pallab Choudhury and CPI-M leader Mr Tarapada Barman. Mr Benubadal Chakraborty presided over the meeting.

The bridge would help connect the Dinhata and Sitai area. People find it difficult to cross the river in the absence of a bridge, especially during the monsoon. The proposed bridge will be 900 meters long and will need to have approach roads on both sides of about 4.5 km. The bridge is expected to entail an investment of Rs. 55 crore.
